English Version | Emotional Baggage

Extra weight. This is what our attempts to pack for a trip usually result in - be it for the weekend, intercontinental, for a snow holiday or for a bathing season.

Extra weight. It is what also, as a rule, defines what we leave behind each time we embark on a new adventure, whether as unscathed as moving house or as transformative as changing our lives. Hand luggage. It is what usually seems to become our emotional baggage every time we free ourselves from a past that no longer serves us, that was toxic or that simply no longer makes sense. But emotional baggage is always in a trunk, a chest or holdall that we send to the bottom of the plane, outside the cabin that surrounds us and in which we move from destination to destination. Emotional baggage will always have extra weight if we don't get rid of it, risking traveling through life with an unnecessary sweater for California or a sun shade that is just silly for the Swiss Alps. Emotional baggage is, above all, out of shape, because it will always be different from voyage to voyage. Which is curious, because emotional baggage is never fleeting. Photography by Mara Alonso.
